The BMW 1 Series is the first generation of BMW range coupes, hatchbacks, and convertibles, produced from 2004 to 2013. The 1 series is comprised of models E81, E82, E87, and E88. It has replaced the 3 series compact as BMW's smallest and least expensive car. Design work was completed by Christopher Chapman in 2001, under Chris Bangle, design director.
